Because of limitations in the software, there are some things you cannot do with an iPod Touch or iPhone in Blackboard. You cannot upload a file; therefore, you may not use the assignment tool, safe assign, or make an attachment in discussion forum. You should not try to take a quiz.

On the other hand, it is possible to view announcements and files, check grades, and read and write postings to the discussion forums (without attachments). If you plan on using your iPod Touch or iPhone with Blackboard on a regular basis, there are a couple of things you should consider.

First, the default text editor in Blackboard (otherwise known as the Visual Textbox Editor or VTBE) does not work on the iPod Touch/iPhone.The alternative does work, so you need to disable the VTBE. To do this:

  1. Log into Blackboard at http://courses.missouri.edu.
  2. Click the My Blackboard Tab.
  3. Select Personal Information from the "Tools" menu.
  4. Choose Change Personal Settings.
  5. Set Availability to Off.
  6. Click the Submit button.
Second, you may find it easier to navigate inside of your Blackboard courses using the "Course Map." If your instructor does not have this turned on, ask if it could be turned on.
