Instructors who have a student with a documented disability and is registered with the Office of Disability services may receive academic and classroom accommodations. One specific accommodation allows extra time on a test regardless of its delivery method. For courses delivered in Blackboard, the Timer will track time for the entire class but it is possible to exceed the time limit. No additional configuration is necessary to accomplish this, but students requiring accommodation should be made aware that they are permitted to exceed the time limit by the amount of time specified by their accommodation. This also means that any student taking the test in the Blackboard site can exceed the time limit, so the instructor should explain how these situations will be handled.
Do not enable the AUTO-SUBMIT option.
You will see a green exclamation point in the Grade Center, alerting you that the student exceeded the normal time limit. You can look at the time spent to see how much time s/he took. The downside is other students can also go over the time limit. You can penalize students who go over the time limit that do not have a documented accommodation.
To check your settings:
- Navigate to the place in your course where the test is deployed.
- Place your cursor over the test link and click the arrow to the right.
- Select "Edit Test Options".
- Both the timer and the Auto-submit features are under Test Availability.
