What is a Smart View?

Smart Views are customized Grade Center views (or pre-defined searches of the Grade Center). This feature allows you to display only items that meet specific criteria. Smart Views may be used to show only:
  • the students in a given group or section
  • students who have completed certain tasks
  • students with grades below a given threshold
There are five types of Smart Views:
  1. Course Group displays information based on the group settings in your Blackboard course site. For instance, you can create a Smart View to show you each one of the groups you have created.
  2. Performance filters users based on performance on one Grade Center item (e.g., students who scored below a C on Exam 2)
  3. User chooses users from a list. This may be used to follow students you have identified as needing special attention.
  4. Category and Status displays information based on the Category and Status of items in the Grade Center.
  5. Custom filters users based on performance on multiple items with boolean operators (e.g., students in Group 1 who received a 90% or greater score on Paper 1).

Note: If you are sorting your Grade Center by section or class (reference) number, it is recommended that you use Custom Smart Views.
